Architectural Design 3

Modern Architecture

Project 1: Poetic Journey Structure

Project 1 is a collaborative project featuring a part for each member. The aim is to romanticise a typical Malaysian tropical beach and turn it into an exciting narrative journey that will then be translated into two (2) separate independent Poetic Journey Structures. Groups of eight (8) students are given this work. Students must develop a single story that will later change into two buildings. One using a linear travel structure and one using a concentric journey structure, both adapted from the same narrative or tale. Then, using the models, the students will make a poetic video of the journey.

Individual Precedent Study

Reflection

From this project, I became aware of what poetic architecture is and how to achieve creating a poetic structure. I am very grateful for the amazing groupmates that I got to work with during this project. I would like to thank Mr Sue May for her guidance and helpful feedback.

Project 2A : The Discovery Center (Genius Loci) - Site Analysis, Site Response and Design Concept

A "tutorial team" project is Project 2a. The team will need to divide the assigned duties carefully into groups of 15 or 16 in order to complete the site analysis. Within a time frame of fewer than two (2) weeks, there are five (5) divisions of duties that must be finished. With the exception of the site plan, site sections, site model, and the visceral board, all items must be given as a slide presentation.

The “study area” for Project 2 is Tanjung Tuan Recreational Forest and the specific area for the building proposal will be at Pantai Lagun Biru or Blue Lagoon.

Site Analysis

Project 2B : The Discovery Center (Visitor Center for Tanjung Tuan Recreational Forest)

Students must create a structure for their final project that will enable users to "DISCOVER" information about the people, place, activities, culture, history, etc. related to Tanjung Tuan Recreational Forest. It will serve as a visitor centre with interpretive exhibits, a museum-like walk-through historical or cultural journey, an interactive and entertaining "edutainment" programme, and spaces or areas to help the park ranger brief visitors before they enter the park. It might serve as a hub for information on nearby attractions and leisure activities. All of this information will be used to create settings that call for poetic architectural design.

Project 1 and Project 2A are carried on in Project 2B. The primary goal of Project 1 was to introduce and investigate the formal and lyrical articulation of architecture in a hypothetical or site-less context. Project 2a focused on using site analysis and historical research to inform the Discovery Center's architectural design. A DISCOVERY CENTRE (Visitor Centre) must be designed in Project 2b, and the design brief requests an architectural response that emphasises a strong engagement and link with the site, people, culture, history, spatial experiences, and programmatic requirements.

Reflection

This project was challenging but has also taught me so much. I have learnt how to acknowledge the site context while designing a structure as well as the elements and factors needed to create a poetic structure. I would like to thank Ms Delliya for being very helpful and for all of her hardwork in ensuring that I was on the right track with her feedback.
