Architecture History & Theory

Crystal Salt

Project 1 : Sketching Analysis

The history of architecture traces the changes in architecture through various traditions, regions, overarching stylistic trends, and dates. The historical richness creates a very vibrant architectural fabric. However, many historical buildings may face the risk of being demolished to make way for more contemporary buildings. Thus, by recording, documenting and analysing the buildings, we can contribute to preserve the historical evidence of the valuable historical Architecture.

Project 2 : Analysis Report

This research project adopts document analysis methodology that involves documenting, analyzing, producing, and a critical chronological and diagrammatical interpretation of Modern Malaysian architectural history. This project emphasizes critical analysis of the post Merdeka/Independence of Malaysian architecture in the effort to understand the influences of post-modernism to architectural design and construction, building science and technology, and urban design. The project is to distinguish the way in which many diverse factors contribute to the development of Modern Malaysian architecture.

Reflection

This has been a very educational and eye-opening module for me as I got to learn about the history of architecture and about how much it has changed over the years. I really enjoyed Project 1 as it allowed me to apply my knowledge from the classes to the project and it also allowed me to express my creativity. Project 2 was also really enjoyable to do with a group and to combine our all of our research together to create a report. This project also allowed us to express our own creativity. For this module, online learning was not a bad experience as we had many platforms to be able to easily contact our tutors from. My tutor Ms Illia has been so sweet and understanding throughout the whole semester. She has also helped answer any doubts I had and she has made this module so delightful as well. I would like to thank her so much for her guidance and understanding.
